Sioux Valley Dakota Nation (SVDN) also known as Wipazoka Wakpa - Saskatoon River -  is honored to have been entrusted with the responsibility of leading the search at the Brandon Indian Residential School site.

 

Recognizing the significance and sensitivity of this work, SVDN approaches the search with utmost humility and care, guided by the memory of the children and the enduring strength of their families. Since 2012, SVDN has been dedicated to supporting the community and building respectful partnerships with families, affected and impacted communities as well as Indigenous organizations in Manitoba and Ontario. ​

 

Guided by Dakota cultural values, our Elders, and a commitment to listening and learning together, SVDN strives to honor both the legacy of those who never returned home and healing journey of Survivors and their descendants. Working collaboratively with all partners and upholding ethical, community-led research practices, for SVDN, leading this effort is not just a responsibility, but a solemn privilege to help bring truth and remembrance.​​

Sioux Valley Dakota Nation Elders Committee

This work is community-led and the Elders committee provides invaluable support and guidance into the ongoing direction of the investigation.
