National Day of Action
The National Day of Action for Residential School Searches and Healing are Survivor‑led, ceremony‑centered gatherings that calls on Canada to honour families and Survivors with sustained, long‑term funding for searches for unmarked graves and for Indigenous‑led cultural and healing supports.
Taking place on May 27, 2026 - the 5th anniversary of Tk'emlúps te Secwépemc's announcement of the preliminary findings of unmarked graves at the former Kamloops Indian Residential School - this Day of Action honours "The Missing," and the moment that ignited a nationwide movement of searches at residential school sites across the country.
The Day of Action responds to a hard truth: Canada is walking away from the children who never came home and from the Survivors who did. It is rooted in the Truth and Reconciliation Commission's Calls to Action 21, 22, and 72–76, demanding that investigations and healing programs remain Indigenous‑led and properly resourced for the long term. Alongside ceremony and gatherings, the day amplifies House of Commons petition e‑7410, which calls on Parliament to commit to sustainable funding for IRS investigations and Survivor healing supports
National Day of Action
Survivor-led gathering, centered in ceremony, calls on Canada to honour families and Survivors with sustained funding for searches for unmarked graves and for cultural and healing supports. Canada is walking away from the children who never came home and from the Survivors who did, and we are asking Indigenous Nations, Organizations, and Allies at every level to stand alongside us.
